You might be familiar with our life paths and how they led us to being together today,
but there may be a couple of details you weren't aware of.
Our story begins on the first day of High School. Upon entering our freshman English class, Lindsay was sitting in the back left corner of the classroom dressed in a white T-shirt, cool floral skirt, leggings and combat boots. We had a moment of exchanged glances and a warm friendly smile, and I believe we both knew at that moment we were going to be friends. And friends we became. As the year progressed, we developed a friendship that would eventually carry us through the ups and downs of the turbulent emotional seas that are High School. Although we were never romantically involved, there was a strong connection between the two of us.
But, as the time for us to graduate came and we went our separate ways, Lindsay to Colorado and I to LA, we eventually lost contact with one another. However, even though we didn't directly speak with one another, we kept tabs through mutual friends on the other's wellbeing over the years to come.
After many years had passed, I learned through a mutual friend that Lindsay was living in Seattle while I was living in Portland. So, I couldn't help but try and make contact with her. I had joined a site right after High School called classmates.com and thought it was worth a look and see if she had joined as well. As luck would have it, she had, so I immediately composed an email to her trying to catch up on all the years passed in a single thought, but never even sure if it would reach her once I hit "send".
Fortunately, it did reach her. And better yet, she responded! We started dating and fell in love, and the Seattle to Portland distance proved to be inconvenient on blossoming love, which eventually turned into Lindsay moving to Portland.
In 2014 we went on a trip to Italy together. And, one night while we were in Florence having dinner, we were sat next to two American sisters. We began swapping stories of our travels and our lives, which led to the question of how long we had been together. The answer of seven years made them both exclaim, "That's almost a decade!" Then, when we answered the question of how we reconnected with "classmates.com", we were met with blank stares of non-comprehension. So, classmates was renamed "The Internet", and we immediately got nods of understanding and squeals of approval. Followed by endless questions on how is it possible to be with someone that long? Do we fight all the time? Are we bored? etc… We smiled at one another with love in our eyes and flashes of the past seven years passed through both of us. And to their surprise we answered not really, it actually gets more magical with time. It's not to say there weren't hard times because there were, and we are not immune to the fact that more are ahead. But what made this one different was there was a willingness to fight for the love we had together.
Something about this trip made us really slow down and focus on what was truly important, our relationship together. And, we'd both agree that it not only solidified our love for one another, but made the roots stronger and the branches reach even higher. We will be getting married on the eve of our 11th anniversary. And we are excited to be starting yet another ‘decade’ with one another as we journey through this beautiful life we all are fortunate to live.
Italy was such a powerful experience for us that we couldn't help but want to share it with everyone we love!
